When we started to to develop our Heavy Duty Swift/Skein-winder, we knew that we also needed to develop a comprehensive measuring system. We needed a bundle it with our skein-winder. So, we embarked on a development program for this new counter. In December 2010, we launched the ERC.

Fortunately, we had all the tools we needed already in our toolbox. Our Electronic Yarn Meter (EYM) already had many features that we could modify to serve as our high-end skein-winder counter system. With these changes made, the EYM would then become the Electronic Rotation Counter (ERC).

The ERC has the following features:

• Counts Rotations and displays the data on the backlit LCD.
• Can count to 99,999
• Can calculate yards or meters based on the rotation of the skein-winder (ERC will convert inches to yards and centimeters to meters).
• User can enter the actual circumference of the skein winder and the ERC will convert it into yards or meters. Or they can refer to the measurements on the Skein-winder arms.
• User can enter a pre-set target into the ERC and the unit will sound a tone when that number has been reached and will also shut down the motor drive* if connected.
• Mounts on top of the skein-winder's main column on an tilted mounting bracket for easy viewing.
• Can be used on either the table top or floor mount units
• DC powered via a 12v dc power supply (no batteries to replace), powerful enough to offer a backlit display.

There is no other commercial grade metering system available on Earth for skein-winders that is this powerful. Don't believe us? See if you can find one.

The ERC has a: backlit display, measures rotations, yards, and meters, and it will signal the user when the target qty has been measured. It will also turn off the motor drive when the target has been measured. It has a magnetic circuit (non-contact) sensor system. Includes custom designed electronics based on a commercial grade design.

If you are a serious fiber artist and need a high quality skein-winder that can measure your yarn, there is simply no other solution available that can offer the measurement system that our ERC™ offers.

Use our ERC with other brands of skein-winders

We will make the ERC available for other brands of skein-winders as well by offering an adaptable mounting system that will allow the user to use our system with other brands of skein-winders. So, if you do not own our skein-winder it is probable that we can adapt this unit to your existing unit with a relatively low cost adaptor that will hold the unit and magnetic pickup. We simply need to have you attach a magnet to one of the arms on your unit which is easily glued on and then attach the magnetic pickup assembly near that unit. A cable will run from the ERC to the magnetic pickup assy. So it is relatively straightforward to do.

Historical Note: From August 2010 thru Dec 2010, we bundled our small hand counter with all skein-winders. However, we were disappointed with its reliability for resetting and power down functions and abandoned this device for use with our skein-winder. We may develop a low cost counter for the system again but for now, we are only offering our own ERC which is the best solution available.
