eKnit-Kards Desktop

When upgrading all versions of eKnit-Kards Desktop, be sure to follow the instructions below. You cannot just run the new version on top of the old version. You need to prepare your data so that you can use it with the new program.

Upgrade Instructions for upgrading to Version 1.15.9

Upgrading – If you already have eKnit-Kards Desktop installed and you want to preserve your existing data, please do the following:

For Version 1.15.x moving to 1.15.9

1.            Download the zip file and save it to a known location.

2.            Unzip the file.

3.            Copy the file (highlight filename, right mouse click, and select Copy).

4.            Paste it into the following location c:\program files\eknit-kards115

5.            The program will be listed as 1.15 on the start menu. However, the Main Menu and About screens will report 1.15.9

For Version 1.0X to 1.10 moving to 1.15.9

1.      Download the 1.15.9 program and save it to a known location on your hard drive.

2.      Unzip the file.

3.      Launch the executable file (setup.exe) to install the new version.

4.      The program will install all necessary files to the following folder:

a.      C:\program files\eknit-kards115

5.      Your old files will be in one of the following directory locations:

a.      c:\program files\eknit-kardsDT   (for versions 1.0X)

b.      c:\program files\eknit-kards        (for version 1.10)

6.      Locate the correct directory based on your existing version of eKnit-Kards. Then locate the “Data” folder in that directory.

7.      Now we will select all of the files in that folder. Open the Data folder and then “Select All” (“Ctrl -A”) of the files that are in that folder.

8.      Now we will COPY all of these files and PASTE them into the new Data folder (do a Right Mouse Click, then select “COPY”).

9.      Locate and open the new “Data” folder  “c:\program files\eknit-kards115\data” . Right mouse click, and select PASTE. This will PASTE all of your old data into the new data folder. Answer “YES” when asked if you want to overwrite the files that are there.

10.  Only after verifying that your old data is being properly accessed within the new version 1.15, should you remove the old version of eKnit-Kards (Start/Control Panel/Add or Remove Files/eKnit-Kards 1.10 (or other version).

11.  The program will be listed as 1.15 on the start menu. However, the Main Menu and About screens will report 1.15.7

List of known issues with 1.15.9

None

This problem has been corrected in Version 1.15.7.1 which does not change the program but does change the online registration process for CD Rom customers. If you experience this problem and would like another CD Rom based on the corrected Version 1.15.7.1, please contact us. Existing users of 1.15.7 who are successfully using the program do not need to upgrade t0 1.15.7.1.

List of known issues with 1.15.7

There was a problem when registering the software online. The user would complete the registration by filling in the data but then would get an error code which indicated that they were not registered.

There was a problem in the timeout function of the registration sequence with the server. Essentially, the user would have to cancel out of the application to clear the problem and then go back in. On the second attempt, the problem would typically clear itself. However, the registration of their data would still not go through.

Errors were present when no data was in the database in certain areas of the Project and Yarn module. These were corrected in 1.15.1

List of Known Issues with Desktop 1.10

1. Swatch section - the Notes item is not correctly set up. It is only recording a single note as opposed to an individual note for each Swatch record. Until we correct this, do not write any notes in this area if you also use a Palm because your data may overwrite your Palm data which are individual notes.

Solved in 1.15

2. Project and Yarn section - this section is not correctly set up. It is only recording a single note as opposed to an individual note for each Project/yarn record. Until we correct this, do not write any notes in this area if you also use a Palm because your data may overwrite your Palm data which are individual notes.

Solved in 1.15

3. Book Inventory - the notes section for any given record is not immediately refreshing when a user selects a different book. This will be corrected.

Solved in 1.15

List of Issues with 1.02

Previous issues listed below

1. Project Yarn Section

Grand Summary form is reporting the incorrect $ value for Projects. This is not catastrophic but needs to be corrected. We will issue a maintenance release before year end which will correct this problem.

Solved in 1.02.05

2. Make to Fit

The Fit Factor is sending a number over to the Palm which is not correct. It is also not handling the Fit number coming from the Palm correctly. We will correct this in the next update. In the meantime, please consider the data on the Palm as being correct. If you are only using the Desktop without a Palm, there should be no problem.

Solved in 1.02.05

3. Unexpected Errors - Certain users may run into a problem when running the database applications within eKnit-Kards (Book and Needle inventory, etc,). We have issued 1.02.02 which solves these problems by adding additional Windows support files to the package. These extra files will be loaded onto your desktop during the install and will allow you to run eKnit-Kards without a problem.

Solved in 1.02.02

Tips for using Version 1.15
Exporting data When you want to export a specific table of data from the program, you should be on a page that uses the table that you want to export. Then tap Export from the Menu bar under the Data tab. Only that Table will be exported.
Exporting data You can export all of the tables in the program from any page by selecting Export All from the menubar under the Data tab.

A list of the tables is contained in the Help manual also available from the Menubar under the Help tab.

Backup data The backup function saves a snapshot of your data at the time that you perform the backup. You can Restore those files at any time. To save all of your data for a true backup, you should save the entire DATA folder in the following location c:\program files\eknit-kards to a safe location. This saves all of your data including sync data for your PDA. In Version 1.15 we added the capability to backup and restoire from files you select. We recommend this method over the standard backup solution above.
Make To Fit Ease Table

Using the Ease Table takes a little practice. To edit an existing easement, put your cursor on the easement. Then correct the data in the bottom input boxes. Then tap Update. To create a NEW easement, enter your data into the input boxes at the bottom, then tap NEW. Review the instructions on the screen for help.
Needle Inventory When using Desktop with a Palm, you should assign a Brand name to each new needle that you create. If you prefer, create a new category called "None" if you do not have a brand.

Visit the Desktop Update Page for the latest info on Desktop releases.
