The
Jumbo Lazy Kate is the 2nd in our series of Lazy Kates. Our
original Kate measured 6" x 6". The Jumbo measures 7" x 7"
and is only 1" larger in both directions than the original
Katie a-Go Go. It can accommodate all conventional bobbin sizes
including the new larger 5"
bobbins. Some pictures on
this page are of the older version so just keep in mind that
the Jumbo is slightly larger. It uses all of the same
components as the original and fits into a slightly larger
denim
carry sack
This Kate has become the lazy kate of choice among
discriminating spinners. Rock solid, stabile (with a low
center of gravity), easy to assemble, and highly portable in
its own heavy duty denim sack. Over the years we have sold a
few thousand of these units.
If you require a kate
for the new art yarns, then check out our new
Anything but Lazy Kate™. This Kate that is
capable of handling any requirement that you can throw at
her. It is not as compact as our Jumbo Lazy Kate but it is
self contained and all of it parts store inside the unit.
Note: the
Anything but Lazy Kate
will not replace the Jumbo Lazy Kate advertised on this page, we will
offer both versions since they both solve the needs of
different types of spinners!

The Katie a-Go-Go™
fully assembles
in less than a minute.
It has just 6
parts plus a carrying sack. There are no tools
required to assemble it. The user screws the center
dowel into the base by hand. They then insert the 3
steel bobbin rods. Then, they slip either 2 or 3 bobbins
onto the rods and insert the tensioning dowel into the
base. Lastly, they wrap the cord around the bobbins and
then pull their yarn through the center dowel's yarn
loop. That's it!

The standard Katie a-Go-Go™
is pictured at left and measures 6" x 6". Our new Jumbo
version measures 7" x 7" and looks just like
the original but is just a little larger. It can
accommodate all known bobbins.

The
tensioning system
is simple and effective. The user controls the tension by
turning the dowel while it is seated in the base of the
unit. The other end of the tensioning cord is connected to
the stationary dowel via a small rubber band. |

Drop
Spindle use: Our Lazy Kate is one of the few kates on
the market that can do the following (by the way, we
invented this system shortly after the turn of the century):

We conceived of the idea of
using drinking straws with a Kate for the purpose of
transferring your yarn from the drop spindle to the
lazy kate. Then you could either store your yarn on
the straw or ply it back to the drop spindle.

Not all kate's can do this.
It must be vertical and have thin rods among other
factors.
We include 3 straws with our kate
but you can get them anywhere. Just trim them to
about 8 to 8-1/2" in length. |
