Introducing the
Kirman
Fair Isle Sweater
Available in both kit form and pattern only

Russet Kirman shown

Gray Kirman Sagebrush Kirman    Russet Kirman

The Kirman pullover was inspired by the beautiful symmetry and colors of Oriental carpets.

The back ground in the main pattern stays the same - a beautiful deep heather rust - while the motifs on the foreground shade from gold to green to green/blue to blue and then to black. The borders around the bottom, across the top and at the cuffs mimic the small border patterns of the carpets as well.

The sweater was designed with comfort as well as beauty in mind. The tunic styling is flattering to all figures. The neckline, with the short V-neck and placket also make it attractive and easy to slip on and off. Finished off with the frog closure completes the Oriental theme.

The sweater is knit in the traditional Fair Isle method with no more than 2 colors per row and few long runs of any one color. It is knit completely in the round; steeks are added to all openings. Shaped edgings are made to prevent curling up of the edges and facings are made to cover all cut steek stitches.

The sweater can be made in the three listed width sizes and the three sleeve lengths can be switched to fit the right width.

Girlie Gansey

     Girlie Gansey

This is our latest sweater pattern which was featured in the Winter 2003 edition of Spin-Off magazine. We only offer the pattern for this fantastic sweater. Nancy models the sweater in the above photos.

The yarn for this sweater was handspun with fiber I bought on a trip to New Zealand.  Each lace pattern was chosen to remind me of my journey in some way.

bullet

The center panel was chosen because it reminded me of the waves on the pebbly shores of the Banks Peninsula.

bullet

The cables winding upward reminded me of the paths the sheep created over the hills.

bullet

The openwork ladders represent the lakes that lay between the mountains that I saw on my trip over the Southern Alps.

bullet

The circles on the ends remind me of the circle of friendship for all the friends I made on the trip, and the little open flecks are the raindrops that were ever present, but never depressing.

Though I used handspun, the yarn I made was a typical DK weight yarn.  Any yarn that knits to the below specifications, can be used.

Finished measurements:

44” chest, 24” long, sleeve length 18”

Materials:

Needles:  #3 (3.25mm), #5 (3.75mm) 24” or 32”circular, #3 (3.25mm) 16: circular

Yarn:  DK weight, 13 WPI approximately 1500 yards.

Cable needle, ring markers, tapestry needle

Gauge:

5.5 stitches/inch stockinette, 6 stitches/inch in pattern, 7.75 rows/inch

We do not offer a kit for this sweater since our Digit yarn is not a DK weight. However, we do sell the pattern. There is only one size included in the pattern (44"). You may modify it yourself if you need another size.
